The Chicago Bulls play host to the Memphis Grizzlies at United Center on Wednesday. The Grizzlies (6-14) come into this matchup losing seven of their last eight games and it’s not going to get any better anytime soon with Ja Morant injured. The rookie point guard has been the early front-runner for Rookie of the Year and he’s unfortunately going to be out for “weeks” because of a back issue. Victories have been hard to come by even with the young stud healthy and it’s scary to think how bad they’ll be with him off the floor. The guy they need to get more from is Jaren Jackson Jr. That kid has superstar written all over him with his versatile skill set but he simply can’t stay on the floor. It’s not injuries though, it’s actually a league-worst foul rate. That’s something that can be fixed and it makes Jackson and Morant one of the scariest duos for the next decade once they can get on the floor together. The Bulls (7-14) just had one of their most impressive wins of the season on Monday, going into Calfornia and defeating the resurgent Sacramento Kings. That snapped a three-game losing streak for this young team and the volatility is simply impossible to understand. While that does happen with a young club, you can only use that excuse for so long. There is plenty of talent with guys like Wendell Carter, Zach Lavine and Lauri Markkanen but it just hasn’t clicked for whatever reason. With all that said, a small winning streak could put this club right on track to return to the playoffs in an unbelievably weak Eastern Conference. Not only has Chicago swept the last two season series against Memphis, they’ve also won five-straight games over them in total.
